Short Biography Arjen Uytendaal (1959):
After 26 years of business experience with shipping companies I founded in November 2006 my own Management and Consultancy Company.
During these 26 years I worked for Nedlloyd, P&O Nedlloyd, Blue Star Ship Management and for Reederei Blue Star in Hamburg. After my education as nautical officer at the Maritime College of Amsterdam, I joined Nedlloyd in 1980 as a seagoing officer. I sailed for just a couple of years before I joined the shore organization as a ship-planner at the ECT terminal. Via different functions in procurement, trade operations, IT project management and Product Development management I became responsible for the complete container logistics for Nedlloyd in the mid nineties. During the merger between P&O Containers Ltd, London and Nedlloyd, Rotterdam I was appointed as Director International Container Management and responsible for the total integration and consequently the management of both container fleets in terms of empty logistics, procurement, maintenance, repair and asset control (tracking).
In 2002 I was appointed as Director Fleet Management responsible for all the ships under the management of P&O Nedlloyd, 60 in total with a pool of 1500 seafarers from many different nationalities. The management included new-building, procurement, crewing, technical management, IT support and the dismantling of the ships.
When P&O Nedlloyd sold 14 ships to the German KG market I was instrumental in the foundation of the independent German ship-manager Reederei Blue Star, while at the same time I transformed the Dutch in-house ship management department of P&O Nedlloyd into a separate business entity; Blue Star Ship Management B.V.
In august 2005 A.P. Moller Maersk, Copenhagen, bought all P&O Nedlloyd shares and after a successful integration of the ship management activities I left P&O Nedlloyd and Blue Star and started as an independent maritime consultant with the aim to add value to the maritime industry by sharing my experience and knowledge of the shipping industry.
